My trip to Cinci...

So, to make a long story longer ;)
My wife travels to Cincinnati quite often for work, my work is an Ice Maker in a Curling Club. There is a possibility that she could be transfer to Cinci and that would make my job almost nonexistent. We decide to take a tour in which she'd be working and I'd play the tourist. On a whim, I sent a few emails and connected with Charlie Montgomery at Miami University in Oxford, OH. It was the best thing I've ever done! They have a great facility and an even better relationship with the arena staff. This can make or break (in my opinion) a small club using arena ice. This College Club gets the ice for 2 hours on a Sunday night and the teams love it, curling that is. They are so addicted to the sport and want to grow it. I'm sure with some guidance it could explode.

On the way home to Ontario, I stopped in to visit the 4 sheeter in Bowling Green. The Tim Horton's across the street gave me cause to celebrate. As I enter the arena complex, I can see the humidity. The atmosphere was very different, a poorer relationship with the building owners and a club that could be something special with a little help.

The excitement that I get from curling is spreading. It's a shame that the USCA can't turn the corner because I really think that it is on the verge. As for the specific scene in Cincinnati, only time will tell. I'll continue to do my part to drum up interest for a club. If you would like to try it, right now the options are in Columbus and Indianapolis.
